At Sprouts, there is something for everyone. We need people with all different kinds of skills to make our organization flourish! Read more below to see which position is best for you.

Sprouts Cafe Team Member

Under the supervision of a Sprouts board member, you will be working in the Sprouts store/cafe with a team of student volunteers to serve coffee, tea, and delicious food to the community. You will be a part of and contribute to a warm environment while helping promote local, organic, and fair-trade food.

Each shift will be a unique experience with opportunities to learn new skills, connect with people in the UBC community, spread awareness about food issues, and engage in meaningful work.

A typical shift involves:

  • Engaging with customers and fellow volunteers
  • Serving customers our daily vegan stew and baked goods
  • Making coffee, reheating soup, restocking grocery items
  • Cleaning dishes and equipment
  • Maintaining the tidiness of our community space
  • Assisting with the facilitation of Community Eats (Fridays only)

Volunteers are required to commit to weekly 2-3 hour shifts. Choose between the hours of Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Sprouts Kitchen

Under the guidance and supervision of the kitchen manager, volunteers will help prepare, cook, and bake food to be served in the Sprouts cafe.

A typical shift involves:

  • Chopping veggies and mixing up spices for our stews
  • Baking delicious breads and baked goods
  • Cleaning up the kitchen after cooking with the team

If you are interested in experiencing what it is like to cook in an industrial kitchen, meeting other foodies, and developing your kitchen skills, come lend a hand in our kitchen!

No experience is necessary, as our kitchen managers and assistants will be on-site to share their knowledge and provide assistance.

Volunteers are required to commit to weekly 2-3 hour shifts. Choose between the hours of:

  • Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM or
  • Tuesdays from 5 PM to 9 PM

Community Eats

Many helping hands are needed to help with providing a delicious by-donation lunch to the community every Friday. From food pick ups, cooking, and serving hungry friends, volunteering at Community Eats is a great way to see how just a few people getting together on an environmental initiative can impact a huge community.

We offer two positions (or you can do both!):

Drivers are needed to collect donated produce and bread from local stores. Preferably, drivers will have their own vehicle and they will be reimbursed for gas.

Produce pick up times are:

  • Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Thursdays 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Community Eats Kitchen Members

Help make a stew, toss a salad, whip up a dip, and much more at this crazy giant cooking party! This is a DROP-IN shift - come by every Thursday starting at 5 pm and plan on staying for at least 2 hours!

*CE volunteers get to skip the CE line on Fridays!

Team members are needed to work weekly 2-3 hour shifts (flexible) between the hours of Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

All shifts consist of tasks such as food prep, cooking, making hot espresso drinks, engaging with customers, cash handling, cleaning, food running, and more.

Morning shifts typically focus on preparing food for the day (especially the lunch rush!), serving customers, and making drinks. Expect a fun cooking party!

Lunch shifts are the most hectic (but incredibly rewarding) shifts. They are super fast paced and require lots of teamwork. Be prepared to work under pressure. Expect to either take orders/work the till, prepare food, serve food, and bus tables!

Afternoon shifts - the calm after the storm. Help pick up after the crazy lunch madness by cleaning up the kitchen, preparing ingredients for the next day, and ensuring that the cafe is looking as good as new.

While no experience is necessary and we provide all training, if you have FOODSAFE or any previous barista, serving, and/or kitchen experience, please indicate so on your application.

Sprouts Box

As a collaborated effort with the AMS Bike Co-Op, Sprouts Box helpers will pack and deliver local and organic produce to residents in the UBC community. Helpers are needed every Monday for at least 1-2 hour long shifts. This is a fun and active shift! Gain muscles from packing and lifting boxes, and/or look hip and achieve major Vancouverite status by biking around with organic produce buckets!

Sprouts Box Packing: Mondays 12 PM to 2 PM
